History: 1913 completed and registered LT 87 Achievable. 1914 September on hire to Admiralty; as Patrol Boat, Mine Sweeper, Escort; Ad No212; fitted with one 3pdr. gun. 1914 December 18th., Scotsman newspaper reported that James Frederick Howlett, skipper of the steam drifter Datum of Lowestoft was awarded the Bronze medal for Gallantry by the King. The fireman, named Turrell, of the Achievable fell overboard in the North Sea in May of the year. Life belts were thrown to him but he was too weak to grasp them. The skipper of the Datum which was following stern of the Achievable saw his plight and dived into the sea and brought him safely back to the Datum. A heavy sea was running at the time. 1919 returned to owners. 1926, August 25th., Scotsman newspaper reported that Achievable was one of the top boats landing in Lerwick with 50 crans of herring. 1927 registry closed, reason unknown. |
